StitchKnots . . .
Orts (everything that's leftover)
Last fall several of us had the wonderful experience of taking a two-day
pilot class with Lois Kershner. It was a "test group" for Lois' "Valley Of
Heart's Delight," an original design she will be teaching at the national
seminar  in San Antonio beginning August 24.  The class was offered
through Wine Country ANG chapter in Napa.
We were excited about the class because Lois has perfected a method of
creating fog using roving, a natural, unspun wool which is attached to a
stitched canvas using a felting needle.  "Valley Of Heart's Delight" is a
beautiful design Lois created based on several photographs she had taken
of cherry orchards in bloom over a carpet of blooming mustard. To create
a perspective of depth in the picture, Lois also uses the unique technique
of stitching two separate canvases, one of background hills and another
with closer hills and orchard.  After the canvases are stitched, they are
are joined at the sides and the "fog" is draped over the lower hills.
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this class with Lois. She is such a
wonderful teacher, very patient, very precise in her instruction and one of
the most talented textile artists I have ever met. What a joy it was to
work with her for two whole days. If you ever have this opportunity, do it.
Don't even think twice. You will learn more than you ever dreamed and you
will truly have a magical experience.

project, visit the

Exclamation Point to close September 30 . . .
Dee Matthews, owner of Exclamation Point in Saratoga, has announced that she will be retiring September 30 and will
close the shop. Over the years, this has been a favorite stop for many of us, so this is very sad news. Dee, who turns 81 on
September 17, will host a Grand Farewell Sale and birthday celebration that Saturday from 1-5 p.m. Dee's future plans
include hosting a Website: www.whyknotstitch.com. She hopes to get it launched by the end of the year. We wish Dee all the
best and many happy years of stitching in her retirement years!
Congratulations to winners at the
